Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS), are using artificial intelligence to create a system that will allow people to test foods and drinks for contamination. J-WAFS principal investigator, Fadel Adib's 2019 project developed a wireless system to detect food and liquid contamination. Every year, an estimated one in six Americans gets sick from contaminated food, and 3,000 people die. Nikki Battiste gets a behind-the-scenes look at how the new technology will work.
