Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet

The Jameel Observatory Climate Resilience Early Warning System Network (Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet) is one of MIT’s five Climate Grand Challenges flagship projects.

It aims to empower communities worldwide, particularly in the agriculture sector, to adapt to climate shocks by combining advanced climate and socioeconomic forecasting techniques with technological solutions to strengthen resilience and foster collaborations across the public and private sectors, as well as civil society.

Climate-resilient housing and storm shelters

Extreme heat and storms will endanger lives in southwest Bangladesh, requiring accessible, sustainable shelters that address social barriers and protect assets, with a focus on community needs and future resilience.

Agriculture and adaptation clinics

Adaptation clinics in southwest Bangladesh provide farmers with guidance on climate change impacts, helping them increase resilience by addressing agricultural and economic challenges through informed projections and support.

Water Security

Saltwater intrusion threatens water security in coastal Bangladesh, and climate change will worsen the issue. To address this, Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet is developing models to forecast future risks and create scalable, evidence-based solutions that ensure equitable access to freshwater, engaging stakeholders to mobilize action.
