CGIAR Science Week: Testing and scaling innovations for a climate-secure future

Community Jameel and CGIAR co-host a reception at the inaugural CGIAR Science Week to highlight the importance of testing and scaling innovations, including agricultural technologies, to tackle food insecurity.
With remarks by George Richards, director of Community Jameel, Ismahane Elouafi, executive managing director of CGIAR, and Appolinaire Djikeng, director general of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the reception also showcases key support for food systems innovation.
For Community Jameel, this includes:
- the Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action, a partnership between Community Jameel, ILRI, the University of Edinburgh, Save the Children and J-PAL, and
- the 2025 MIT J-WAFS Grand Challenges grant, supporting a team of researchers from MIT (including from J-PAL) and Kenyatta University, led by Professor Christopher Voigt, to replace harmful agrochemicals with microbes for sustainable agriculture.
The reception is also in association with the COP30 Food Systems Transformation Science and Philanthropy Advisory Group, which brings together researchers and philanthropies to unlock private capital and advance rigorous scientific evidence in support of key COP30 food systems goals.
